Elements of hard landscaping
Decking areas
A raised wooden deck or platform can be a solution to make uneven ground accessible and usable. This can be a desirable option when there is poor soil, a dramatic change in level or where extensive excavation is not possible.
Pergola
A pergola can be both functional and attractive; providing shelter or just an attractive focal point. Adding to the vertical space of a garden can help with screening and privacy issues. The structure also presents new opportunities for planting using climbers such as wisteria or winter jasmine.

Mediterranean Terrace
The aim of this project was to achieve the feel of an authentic Tuscan landscape, with a Mediterranean planting scheme in an urban setting. To achieve this aim, a large section of concrete hard standing has been broken up and removed to create a gravel garden, with planting pockets for drought-tolerant plants such as rosemary, cistus and lavender. The patio itself was created using cobbles (a mixture of Purbeck stone and flint) set into the ground and smoothed over to create an even surface. This demonstrates the importance material choices in the design process, the authentic atmosphere the client wanted to create was heightened using stone rather than standard slabs or paving.
A Kitchen Garden
The aim of this project was to reclaim a tired, underused backyard space and transform it into a productive kitchen garden, complete with raised beds, a greenhouse and areas to cultivate fruit and veg. Here the limitations of the space require a clever design that maximises growing space whilst retaining an aesthetic that works with the lines of the space.
